Firmly Planted

it was pretty

almost

when the water

clasped its mighty palms

around the

circumference

of

my

ankles

it slithered

swallowing my sandy toes

and snaking

it’s way

around the

curves of my calves

it pressed on

climbing higher and higher

the thrill after passing each square inch

never seeming

enough

it craved

more height

until

as high as you can go

became

too high

actions became consequences

filled became empty

swarmed became lonely

the layer of water

slowly peeled away

getting sucked

furtherandfurther

into the aquatic vacuum

leaving my

flesh

a crisp coating

of raw salt and shell

it slank

back down my bony

stilts

pulled at my toes

pawed at my arches

clung to my heels

finding loose sand in its

mighty palms

instead

for i was firmly planted

unwavered

tethered

to the great mass beneath my small

i stood

i stand

i plan to stand

handinhand

feet in the sand

firmly planted

here

i

am.

No undertow can shake that girl
She won’t waiver even on tippy toe
Stand firm LB lean into your curl
Carry form and spirit where ere you go!

Ok so I’m not the poet here- but just wanted you to know you inspire!!
